Baltimore County Indivisible groups oppose bill to participate in ICE deportation program

Indivisible Towson, Catonsville Indivisible, Indivisible North Baltimore County, and others worked with CASA, ACLU of Maryland, and Together We Will – Baltimore Area to raise opposition to Baltimore County Council Bill 32-17 which would require correctional facilities to participate in the federal program 287(g), enlisting those facilities in ICE deportation efforts. Yesterday they participated in a rally and attended a Count y Council hearing for over two hours as members and allies spoke out against the bill.

All four Democrats on the Council oppose the measure, while all three Republicans have expressed support for it. Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz told the crowd, “the Republican members of our county council want to bring this unconstitutional brand of Trumpism here to Baltimore,” and pledged to veto the measure if it passes.

The rally and hearing were covered by the Baltimore Sun and by ABC2 News and WJZ TV.
