On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress ratified the Declaration of Independence and declared this the United States of America. For nearly 250 years, Americans have been commemorating this freedom from monarchy, the original No Kings Day, on the Fourth of July.
This year, tyrannical overlords are attacking our freedoms. So let’s make the most of Independence Day by celebrating what makes America special. This year, there’s more than fireworks and cookouts and putting up with our crazy drunk uncle’s glowing review of Trump’s military parade.
It’s not just your crazy uncle. It’s your cousin, who can’t be bothered with news. It’s your neighbor, who still thinks, “They’re all the same; they’re all corrupt.” It’s your nephew, who “isn’t into politics.” It’s your mom, who doesn’t want to “ruin the Fourth with politics.”
Tools of Engagement
We have some tools to help you engage in a significant conversation—a polite, non-agitated one. We’re pleased to present our brand-new guide to speaking with folks who voted for ICE raids and the raids on the federal coffers that hold our entitlements. We hope you’ll use it: Fostering Discussion.
Protest is patriotic!
On Tuesday, July 2, we’ll put our energy into making patriotic protest signs. If you’d like to join us, please sign up here: Sign-Making Happy Hour.
While there’s no national march planned for this holiday, feel free to take your protest signs and your mini-American flags to your local fireworks display!
Calls to Action
Our weekly actions flyer focuses on the government’s inherently unpatriotic chaos. The links will direct you to a series of America-themed handbills that describe the issues with a little more detail.

Recipe for Success
Finally, whether you’re hosting or going to a cookout or party on the 4th, bring along something patriotic, whether it’s red, white, and blue cupcakes or some version of patriotism pasta salad. Here’s a sweet spin on quiche:
All-American Dessert Quiche
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup of strawberries and blueberries
- 1 cup cottage cheese (opt.)
- 3/4 cup sugar to taste
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix and bake in a glass pie dish at 350° until the eggs puff up—about 40 minutes.

Remember: The American flag does not belong to a single party. It belongs to all of us. Let’s use it proudly in our resistance efforts. Protest is patriotic. Fairness is an American value. Equal protection under the law is in our Constitution. Standing up for what’s right is the foundation of society.
This is our country. This is our future. Let’s reclaim the star-spangled banner and all it’s meant to stand for!
